Duke Center for Science Education student grants
October 04, 2011
The Duke Center for Science Education is offering grants ($500-1500) for student teams to develop hands-on science activities for children in Grades 4-8. The activities developed by each project team must be shared with students during the 2011-2012 school year.
This year will have two themes:
The Five Senses and how they help us make sense of science, medicine, and everyday life.
The Science of Sports, including the physical and chemical properties of soil, pulleys and levers, water quality analysis, momentum, human physiology, food chemistry and nutrition.
Projects must relate to these topics in some way, but may be as diverse as the genetics of taste to the chemistry of making ice cream to making medicines from plants to using catapults to mimic batting and throwing and more. Use your creativity to make science come alive! If you have a great idea and need help connecting it to the theme, please contact christine.adamczyk@duke.edu. Each team must consist of at least 2 students (undergraduate or graduate) and a faculty advisor.
We are currently accepting applications for 2011 -2012. Submit your application with advisor signature by midnight, October 12.
